Dear Mr. Neil Degrasse Tyson, Before reading your article Why America needs to explore space I would've never known that space travel and exploration barely spend money on Materials and things they need, Space only spends 7/10ths of a penny. Us as Americans are asking questions like "why are we spending billions of dollars up there in space when we have pressing problems down here on Earth?" is really inconsiderate for us to say because not even thousands of dollars are spent on space nevertheless billions! Instead of complaining about space travel and exploration we should be thanking space travelers if it wasn't for them countless women would be deceased using funds that were granted by the National science foundation, the medical community adopted the new techniques being used for the Hubble to assist their early detection of breast cancer. As you said in your article "Science and technology are the greatest engines of economic growth the world has ever seen. Without regenerating homegrown interest in these fields, the comfortable lifestyle to which Americans have become accustomed will draw to a rapid close." And because we Americans love our comfortable we have to get more of an interest into space and actually try to explore new things and see things we won't be able to see on TV. We should start exploring outer space and anyone who thinks different should read your article because it is a really inspiring read and I learned so much in the fourteen paragraphs that you wrote. I really wouldn't have understood why space travelers are telling us to travel to space but after reading your article my eyes are wide open and I understand now. Nyah Campbell 4/19/2011
