Can you please tell your way of begining a story or anecdote?

Hi there,

I'm interested in different ways of beginning to tell a story or an anecdote.
things like:
-Let me tell you a story {...}
-Do you want to hear a story? This happened to a friend of mine. {...}
- I heard of this interesting story about an old man who lived in a small village {...}

Can you please tell some of your ways of beginning a story or an anecdote?

Hi,
Once upon a time... (especially when you read stories to kids)

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions on how to begin a story. For me, introduction is the difficult part of telling stories or giving speeches

Instead of a bland preamble, why not grab your listeners' attention with a dramatic opening sentence?

'Don't tell me I'm crazy! I nearly died of fright that night.'

'Fighting for breath, the exhausted messenger stammered "Sire! ...Sire!...the t...traitor...is...is..." before dropping dead at his master's feet.'

Jokes often begin with, "Did you hear the one about ...?"
