Can you please tell me what is the correct form?

So me and my friend were arguing on a comment on facebook.

This is the comment "Because drawing on papers are too mainstream". She is referring to a post where this amazing person can draw in dirt. Anyway, my friend corrected the comment and he said "*is" which is not right because the word "papers" is plural right? If you want to put "is" then the subject should be singular.
