Can you please help me writing a letter to an old friend?

I had a bit of trouble with a good friend of mine. Now I would like to reestablish contact. So I'm writing a letter and would like to do so in english if I get it done.

Can I write te following:

"For a long time I've wanted to write you. Yet whenever I try, so many things go through my mind that I don't know where to start or how to get everything into order."

Is this entirely wrong? Is there a way to make it sound better? Please help.

Top answer

"For a long time I've wanted to write you. Yet whenever I try, so many things go through my mind that I don't know where to start. So much has happened since then that I could write an entire book about my life and experiences.
