Can you help with countable nouns pls :)

0I'm trying to grasp the notion of countable/ non-countable nouns. I think I am sort of sweet with them in theory, however in practice there is obviously plenty of hard cases. Well, I picked a short article from the Economist and tried to label non-trivial cases, so 01font00countable02font00 nouns will be in blue, while 01font00non-countable02font00 red. 02br

00Democratic activists believe that "01font00censure02font00" is the very least that Mr Bush deserves: what they really want is 01font00impeachment02font00--or worse. Several leftish groups are working for his impeachment, with magazines publishing articles suggesting exactly how it might be done. Polls show that wiretapping is one of the few areas where the 01font00public02font00 backs Mr Bush. And pushing too hard against the commander-in-chief of a country at 01font00war02font00 is dangerous. 02br

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton couldn't find the words to comment on Mr Feingold's idea; even the loquacious Chuck Schumer was struck dumb for a merciful few moments. The activists wailed that the senators were a bunch of lily-livered Bush toadies who would all be ousted if they didn't toe the line. 02br

00And the Republicans? Having spent the past few weeks being beaten up (often by each other), they relished the 01font00chance02font00 to turn on their foes. Bill Frist, the Senate majority leader, tried to force an immediate vote on the 01font00motion02font00. Ken Mehlman, the Republican chairman, sent an e-mail telling supporters: "Weakening our national 01font00security02font00 is their agenda. Is it yours?" Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, claimed Mr Feingold came "perilously close" to the 01font00border02font00 between "justified opposition and treasonous 01font00conduct02font00". 02br

00But there is more to Mr Feingold's 01font00move02font00 than just a week of 01font00embarrassment02font00 for his party: there is the 01font00smell02font00 of the 01font00future02font00. To begin with, you don't have to be treasonous to worry that Mr Bush overstepped the 01font00mark02font00 when he decided to wiretap terrorist suspects without first getting 01font00permission02font00 from judges. Mr Bush says he has the 01font00right02font00 to engage in such wiretapping as commander-in-chief, and adds that he told leading congressional figures, including Democrats, about the wiretaps. But this is surely the 01font00sort02font00 of 01font00subject02font00 that Congress should debate, not shy away from. 02br

00Moreover, Mr Feingold is more than just a 01font00maverick02font00. He is a third-term senator from a swing state who is positioning himself to be the liberal champion in 2008 (and is certainly a more appealing figure than Howard Dean). He also has a good 01font00record02font00 of being ahead of the 01font00curve02font00. He was the first Democratic senator to call for the 01font00withdrawal02font00 of troops from Iraq. 02br

00There is little 01font00doubt02font00 that the Democrats will try to impeach Mr Bush if they take over the House or the Senate next November. And little doubt that Mrs Clinton et al will have to break their 01font00silence02font00 on whether Mr Bush's various 01font00misdeeds02font00 are "worse than Watergate" if they decide to run for his job. There is a 01font00chance02font00 that Mr Feingold's damp squib will one day mutate into a giant monster that consumes America's entire political system. 0-
