It is expected that there will be a higher proportion of older people than that of young people in many countries in the future? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

It is widely believed that in upcoming years the number of old people will outnumber that of the young generation in many parts of the world. In my opinion, this will have a negative impact and pose a serious threat to the human race as a whole.

There are numerous reasons why this should not happen. First of all, the situation in which an increase in the number of elderly citizens compared to the youth will put heavy pressure on the government budget. This is because after retiring from the laboring workforce the governments have to pay for their annual pension, which will reduce the money to invest in other aspects of life. Besides, the governments have to support them by setting out policies to help old people like a discount when they use public transport or when they go to hospitals, which can affect the economy significantly.

Second, health authorities could face a serious challenge, if the number of old age people increases in the future, the waiting list could be long for some procedures and operations. In this case, it will be a big problem if patients with serious illnesses will not get an appointment on time. Lastly, there will not be enough employees since the number of young people decreases vastly. The country cannot develop properly if area like medical, engineering lack quality employees. This can lead to a lack of service for its own citizens.

In conclusion, there is a possibility that country's development might suffer if older people’s figures increase in the future as they may put pressure on some of the areas of that country like economy or health.
