Prison is the common way in most countries to solve the problem of crime. However, a more effective solution is to provide people with a better education. Agree or disagree.

Many people believe that improving the educational quality has more advantages than the prison system in solving crime problems. I disagree with this opinion, since both prison and education have their own merits and should be considered as playing the equal role in tackling crimes.

On the one hand, prison is an effective solution to protect the society and stop people from committing crimes. Firstly, depriving lawbreakers of their freedom will keep the society safe from dangerous and violent criminals. If there are no prisons, civilians in the neighborhood will live in anxiety and suspect the surrounders. Secondly, prisons act as a deterrent to ensure that the law is respected and upheld. This good form of punishment will be a role model for other people to keep them away from breaking amendment or becoming an offender.

On the other hand, I consider educational programs as one of the keys to decrease the crime rate by giving law knowledge and moral lessons. Teaching laws for all ages can make them become well-adjusted adults after students leave school. Knowing basic laws in daily life avoids the risk situation that can involve the people to become a victim or criminal. For example, drivers have to learn driving rules and traffic laws to protect themself and other drivers. Another reason is that school is a good environment to teach moral values. Students who know about justice, discipline and honesty are less likely to do illegal activities.

To conclude, I believe prison is a weapon to fight crime and education can not solve the complexity of crime problems alone.
