Some people believe that teenagers should be required to do unpaid community work in their free time. This can benefit teenagers and the community as well. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
There is argued that doing volunteer should be compulsory for teenagers when they have free time for the beneficial purpose between teenagers and also the community as well. However, I do not concur with this idea. Doing unpaid community work should be started from their heart, which means they actually concern and want to do it, or it will affect the teenagers’ feelings and the work they do.
To start with, volunteering needs to be optional to avoid the inconvenience of teenagers. Despite the advantages of unpaid community work for them and the community, the fact is requiring teenagers to do something they feel uncomfortable with can add another level of stress. Some students have already exhausted with studying pressure; thus, free time is their only time to refill their energy and enjoy what they love. Besides, not all the students are into doing volunteer, and forcing them to do will only make them tired instead of proud
Moreover, required volunteering is time-consuming. Instead of doing it, teenagers can stay at home and revise their studying or expand their range of knowledge. Whereas spending too much time on an activity that they unlike, they can use their free time to learn new things, for instance: playing guitar, studying new languages,...
Although required volunteering has its strong points, it cannot outweigh those inconveniences it brings to teenagers. For the best of the community and students, unpaid community work should still be an option for them to decide so that students can try their best for what they want to do.
