In recent decades, people have been moving to cities to have a better life. However, urban residents often suffer from a large number of issues on a daily basis. This essay will look at the reasons for this and propose some solutions.

As I see it, the most vital reason behind a stressful life in a city is the serious crimes that could threaten the peaceful life of any citizen. Unless the horrible criminals such as murderer, drug dealer, rapists and robber were all put into prisons, people would still feel unsafe and anxious to walk on the street, especially at night. This issue could be addressed by installing more public surveillance cameras in dangerous areas. Generally speaking, their appearance would discourage criminals and bring a sense of people to urban citizens.

Another problem is the traffic congestion that people have to deal with almost every day. For many, commuting to work is a constant nightmare. Being stuck on a road for a long period of time often leads to road rage and fights between drivers. To tackle this problem, the government should make public transportation free. Hopefully, this will encourage the residents to use the bus and other methods of public transportation instead of driving their own vehicle.

The third cause is environmental pollution. In the majority of cases, the rapidly increasing urban population leads to air and water pollution. Furthermore, the demand for natural resources has put a strain on the environment. The way forward might be launching a nationwide public campaign to raise people’s awareness about environmental degradation. Consequently, people will make an effort to save water, reuse and recycle rubbish and waste.

To sum up, while living in a big city might be wonderful it is also full of serious problems. In my view, both the governments and the communities have a role to play in addressing this issue. Unless we act now, future generations will suffer great consequences.
