Can you have short independent clauses separrated by commas?

I think I read here sometime back, but I just want to re-corroborate. Is it okay to have, let's say, 3 very short independent and closely related clauses separated only by commas (no conjunctions)?

Ex. "I saw it, I liked it, I ate it."

Someone told me that it is actually considered a list.

Don't do it in a grammar test. But in literary writing, it's fine. 'Rules'' can always be broken.

As a teacher, I have always tried to avoid speaking of 'rules'.
