Sorry, I forget his number.

Are both of the answers correct?

Seems to me that only the first one is correct.

"Sorry, I have forgotten his number."
~Present Perfect

An alternative could be perhaps:

"Sorry, I forgot his number."
~Past Simple

Still, I believe the first is better.

Both of them can be used but the flrst one is much better for this situation because of the fact that I have forgotten his number. Therefore, I can't call him at the present. It is clear that my forgetting his number affects the present. However, the second one can be used in that situation. For instance, I am talking to a friend of mine very later on. "Where is Stefen? I haven't heard of him re
