Topic: Today, TV channels provide men’s sport show more than women’s sport show. Why? Should TV channels give equal time for women’s sport and men’s sport?
Here is my essay:
These days, the number of sport shows played by men broadcasted on TV is higher than that of women. In this essay, reasons for this phenomenon will be mentioned and I believe that TV producers should give equal attention to men and women.
Among various reasons for the dominance of man’s sport shows on TV programmes, two main ones will be mentioned. Firstly, TV producers give men’s sports a higher priority because of their huge audience. In particular, broadcasting more men’s athletes competition will attract more viewers so that they can have more sponsorship investment and potential contrasts, hence optimizing their profits and enhancing company’s rivalship. Secondly, there is a significant number of people who still have strong preconception about women taking part in some specific sports such as bodybuilding or motor racing. In detail, those people assume that women should not join sports due to their physical features and deny their success, which lead to an insignificant notice for female’s sport events compared to the massive popularity of male’s ones.
However, from my perspective, the TV producers should not biased toward men. In fact, if the omnipresence of male in almost kinds of sport is going to continue, it can cause an increase in gender inequality which has been a thorny issue in modern society. Moreover, because women have gained some marked achievements and attracted a growing number of spectators in recent years, TV coverage should focus more to this area.
It is undeniable that TV channels prioritise men’s sport shows due to pletiful reasons. However, I tend to inclined that women and men deserve the same attention in the coverage of sport.
