Can you explain this grammar?

Why is it correct?
- Please ask Mr Smith if I am seeing him next week.
And it's incorrect:
- Please ask Mr Smith if I see him next week.

Both are fine. The present tense (simple or progressive) can be used to express future time. They suggest a pre-planned event.
