The topic is: Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

My essay:
The influence of advertising on the consumption of goods is so tremendous that it is believed to be the primary commercial stimulation, not the needs of people. In my opinion, I agree without reservation with that statement.
Initially, advertising shows people a formidable array of commodities every day since it is pervasive. Moreover, the desire to possess and experience new brands of consumers is usually high. It is to say that the more regularly potential buyers see commercials, the more presumably they will buy the products advertised. Next, there is a secret behind the success of advertisements in catching people’s attention. In other words, a multitude of money spent by companies to tailor every commercial to consumer tastes can elucidate why it is difficult for most people to escape the circle of consuming unnecessary goods. Therefore, it is easy to comprehend the presence of well-known figures like Leo Messi and Black Pink — you name it, on products’ labels, such as on a Pepsi soda bottle.
On top of that, people tend to consume products that can help them express care for society and the environment instead of sticking to their needs. Due to the fact that living conditions are better now than previously, people begin to think of sharing and protecting nature. This could be the reason why a product advertised to be not only produced by an ecological-friendly process but also used to trade for fundraising will be compelling to consumers. The high sales of indigenous handicrafts or organic products seem to support this idea.
In conclusion, I want to restate my position that advertising is a key factor influencing the sale of a product as it may create false needs for consumers. Furthermore, the lives of people have been greatly improved leading to their willingness in making a purchase as a donation rather than to meet their demand.
