Community service is an important aspect of life for me. It provides a sense of worth, meaning, and accomplishment that is hard to find anywhere else. Giving back to those who provide for me, and helping those who are not as fortunate is a calling that I feel must be fulfilled throughout my years on this earth.

My time has always been immersed with a million things to take on, but in the last few years I have learned to prioritize. Although most of my time was set apart for education, I have learned that taking myself out of the community to consummate my own selfish ambitions was not something I could live with. Realizing these new notions, I began volunteering my time to those who need it as often as I could. Whether through accompanying the dying, tutoring the underrepresented, or mentoring a child from a broken home, I knew every opportunity I received would benefit me more than the ones I was helping.

My recent trip out of the country to Mexico has especially been a turning point. The joy the people emanated even through the situations they were succumbed to, made me understand the true meaning of happiness. It is not through the materialistic items we obtain nor by means of the recognition we aspire to have. Instead, it is through the love we show towards others by sacrificing our time, and believing a higher power is waiting to reward us.
