00 00All the gods are immortal beings with different powers according to their position. For example: Poseidon, “God of the Sea;” Athena, “Goddess of Wisdom;” Artemis, “Goddess of the Childbirth and Hunting;” and etc… Odysseus provokes Poseidon with his arrogance after their victory over 00 thus ends Poseidon’s guidance of the sea. Athena’s cares for Odysseus because of his courage, intelligence, wisdom, and adventurous spirit. Through his journey Athena comes and gives him advices to find a way back home. 00 00The first creature mention is the Cyclops, the son of Poseidon and Thoosa, a one-eyed giant monster.00 00He made contact with Odysseus and his crew when they came into his cave to rest. The Cyclops claims the lives of some of Odysseus crew, however with Odysseus’ cunning plan; the Cyclops became blind by a sword through a fight.00 00Furthermore, this enrages the wrath of Poseidon even more which leads Poseidon to throw Odysseus off course from native lands.00 00Roaming in the sea once more, they came upon the island of the Sirens, “creatures who spellbind any man alive.” (45.272). The Sirens sings deadly songs and whoever hears them will result in death. Not far from the island of the Sirens resides the deadly creature Scylla. 02br

00Scylla fought with Odysseus and his crew which resulted in the death of six men.00 00Nearby Scylla lives the deadly creature that is in the form of a whirlpool. “Charybdis gulps the dark water down. / Three times a day she vomits it up, three times she gulps it down,/ not even the earthquake god[Poseidon] could save you[Odysseus] from disaster.”(115.274-118.274). These are creatures of monstrous strength and deadly powers who has not let anyone pass through easily without the aids of the gods except for Odysseus.02br

00 00In his journey he came upon several women who include: the beautiful nymph Calypso, daughter of Atlas; the goddess and enchantress Circe whose welcoming ways leads to undesirable dooms.00 00Circe serves her guest with a feast and wines which turns “all of them bristling in to swine- with grunts,/ snouts-even their bodies, yes, and only/ the men’s minds stayed steadfast as before.”(263.237-265.238). The other nymph whom was part of Odysseus life is “Calypso, the bewitching nymph, the lustrous goddess (16.78)” who craves Odysseus for a husband. Calypso imprisons Odysseus in her cavern for seven years until the Gods took pity on him and orders his release.00 00She becomes angry from the order however succumbs to Odysseus’ longing to go back home; Calypso releases Odysseus out of pity.00 02br
