Can you correct the phrasing

Can you correct the phrasing please? If someone says this, how to say it correctly?

When someone says I have a 2009 mercedes. Is that when the car recorded its first mile, first drove it or when it was manufactured. A dealership could have a car that was manufactured in 2009 but sell it in 2010. Since the person buying it is buying a new car, he would think it was a 2010 right? Does it make the car a 2009 or a 2010?

Thank you

I would choose 2009 as the year when it was manufactured . So whenever the car is sold, it is still a 2009. The person who buys it is not going to consider it a 2010 Mercedes.

  • I would choose 2009 as the year when it was manufactured .
  • So whenever the car is sold, it is still a 2009.
  • The person who buys it is not going to consider it a 2010 Mercedes.
  • He is buying a car, and he should know what it is before getting it.
  • Therefore, the car is not going to be made a 2010.

2009 is the "model year". Actually, the new year model (say 2113 BMW 3 series) is manufactured in 2012 and released in the fall as a new year model. When a buyer registers his new Beamer, the model year is recorded on the registration.
