One summer morning I was drinking coffee with a croissant in Paris and realized that I copied the biggest stereotype about France – a calm, old and relaxing environment. However, after three months of living there, I discovered a new side of this country with a non-Eiffel tower side but with wonderful landscapes, ambitious people, and big opportunities. That morning croissant was just an embodiment of the French lifestyle, but I would describe it as a more diverse European country.
Those 3 months in France were my internship over the summer after my freshman year. After graduating from high school, I decided to enter Novosibirsk State Technical University (the second-ranked university in my region), when I was accepted, I had to move to a bigger city, which seemed stressful to me, but I overcame all of my fears. As a sophomore at Faculty of Humanities (specialty “Translation and Translation Study”), I decided to learn more languages and look for new opportunities. In 2022 I won an internship in the south of France in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. I got involved in a French environment very fast. I also worked there at an international hotel and dealt with international clients solving their problems. This program has had a wide impact on me and has formed the final goal that I want to present.
I also have a huge desire to share my knowledge and my work as an English teacher proves that my desire is strong. Especially, when I see my students’ results when they take first place in school competitions. I have such a multifaceted personality as I am learning three foreign languages. Additionally, I am a member of the University team in ‘track and field’ and I am ready to take part in competitions in the US as well.
As for my role in building connections between Russian and American people, I already had experience taking part in different conferences. For example, I presented a project “an ideal culture, is one that makes a place for any human gift” in English. I conducted research and interviewed international students to determine how cultures are unique. It was my first public speaking experience and I want to do it again and again. I am interested in organizing a cultural event too. On the YEAR program, I am ready to release my project – I would like to create a mini reality show where international students on campus will discuss the cultural specificities by national music, accents, and stereotypes (I already have a scenario for it). Also, I am going to broadcast videos through my blog, which I develop right now.
After the YEAR program, I will be able to implement my huge ideas into reality, for instance, to create an app, where people can learn two languages through cultural differences. Moreover, I would like to take a business administration class, because I plan to open coffee shops where everyone can speak English despite their level of language so that everybody will break their language barrier.
