Some people think that the best way to increase road safety is to increase the minimum legal age, for driving cars or riding motorbikes. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Nowadays, road systems are increasing significantly so there should be a regulation to ensure the safety of the traffic participants. Many concerned policymakers argue that raising the legal age for acquiring a driving license would enhance road security. In my opinion, I partially agree with this idea while there still exist some superior solutions.
On the one hand, proponents of this policy reform argue that numerous traffic accidents in the world are provoked by teenagers. It can be explained that in most countries, it is legal to have a license at the age of 16 when people lack the maturity and experience required to drive a personal car and deal with some challenges on the road. For instance, some research in VietNam has shown that more than a fourth of total traffic accidents were caused by younger people in 2019. Consequently, when the law requests more ages to obtain a driving license, teenagers would have more time to train and facilitate the comprehension of the rules of the road.
In fact, the unsafe on the road is attributed to insufficient education. Not only do adults not have adequate awareness of the influence of alcohol when participating in traffic but also teenagers. Therefore, statistics in some countries reveal that the majority of accidents are occurred from drinking alcohol. In addition, the government should impose strict rules to punish illegal vehicle use. For instance, people can be fined an extremely large amount of budget if they violate the rule so that they may not regress it. As a result, the traffic accidents rate would decrease, and improve the safety of the citizens.
In conclusion, the most prominent way would involve stricter traffic laws and raising awareness of citizens when using vehicles.
