The diagram illustrates the process of growth that a kind of big fish known as salmon undergo.
Overall, the main stages that take place in salmon’s life is a cyclical development which consists of three steps, beginning with becoming a “fry” and culminating with growing mature.
First of all, the eggs stay in the upper river with slow-moving speed for almost five to six months, they are protected under reeds and surrounded by small stones. Next, the eggs hatch creatures called “fry”, the salmon babies are about 3-5 centimeters long. It takes them approximately four years to migrate to the lower river where water flows faster.
Afterwards, the newborn salmon reach the length of 12-15 centimeters that follow the stage of being “smolt”. Subsequently, they commence their journey to the ocean as well as live in the open sea for nearly half of a decade before developing into “adult salmon” whose mature versions are from 70 to 76 centimeters long. In the end, they return to their birthplace and start their new reproduction in order to maintain the salmon race. The salmon life cycle continues similarly with the succeeding generations at the same places.
