The table compares expenditures of five Western nations (Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey) on goods and services (food/drinks/tobacco, clothing/footwear, and leisure/education) in 2002.
Overall, people spent the most money on food, drinks, and tobacco, while spending on leisure and education was the lowest.
Regarding food/ drinks/ tobacco, Turkey led with 32.14%. It was followed by Ireland (28.91%), Spain (18.80%), and Italy (16.36%). Sweden had the lowest budget for this category, about half of Ireland, at 15.77%. Turning to leisure and education, the leader was still Turkey at 4.35%, nearly fourfold as much as Spain (1.98%). Expenditures on leisure and education in Sweden, Italy, Ireland were 3.22%, 3.20%, and 2.21% respectively. The last category is clothing and footwear. The amount of money Italian spent on clothes was the highest, 9.0%, while Ireland, Spain, and Turkey were relatively similar, at around 6.5%. Sweden was the country spending the least on clothing and footwear, 5.4%.
