Can you analyse this sentence structure?

"He traveled throughout Europe showing his photograph".

What is the function of "showing his photograph". This makes me feel like the sentence "He traveled throughout Europe" acting like a noun phrase and the phrase "showing his photograph" acting like a adjective phrase. Is that right? Please help, I see this kind of sentence so many times, but i can't figure out its grammatical structure.
