Can we use the time-expressions 'these days' or 'nowadays' in present simple as well, please

Hello teachers,

- What are you doing these days/nowadays

- What do you do these days/nowadays

Can we use 'these days' or 'nowadays' in present simple tense, please? I know that 'these days' or 'nowadays' are quite common in 'present continuous' tense, but I was wondering If we could use these time-expressions with the 'present simple' as well.

Thank you.

Laborious What do you do these days/nowadays? That is odd in any case. It is asking about the person's occupation, as if the person could not hold a steady job.
