Can we use 'charm' and 'charisma' interchangeably?

Teachers, in my dictionary:

Charm = the power of pleasing or attracting people

Charisma = the powerful personal quality that some people have to attract and impress other people

I am confused here. What is the difference between charm and charisma? Can they be used interchangeably?

It's so helpful if you could give examples.

Thank you in advanceEmotion: smile

Charisma is a personal quality, some have it and some don't. Charm is something anybody can do. If you want somebody to do something you can charm them by offering compliments and being nice.

  • I if met you and complimented you and was nice to you I might charm you, but you wouldn't think me charismatic.
  • If I didn't pay you any compliments but made you laugh and feel as though you enjoyed being with me I would have charisma.

Charisma is an essence, almost an aura. A charismatic person is the person who takes over a room, who other people are drawn to, who becomes the social leader of their groups without trying.

Charm is almost more of a one-on-one feelings. It's you listening to another person, making them laugh, hearing them out, making them feel like you have a connection.
