Can we say "He lent to me lots of clothes."?

Someone thinks that "He lent to me lots of clothes." is grammatically incorrect and suggests "to" should be cut out. Do you think so?

Don't say 'to'.

It depends on the word order.

eg He gave me a gift.

eg He gave a gift to me.

Yes. "to" should be left out.

But this is OK: He lent lots of clothes to me.
