Can we omit the extra 'a' in each, or doesn't it matter?

I'm going to use a sentence from my last post to ask my next question. In the sentence below, do I need to repeat 'a' before the words 'letter' and 'period' to be truly parallel?

Can I just use 'a' once and do this?

Unparallel?

If the words 'Thanks' and 'Thank you' are used at the end of a memorandum or letter, are they followed by a comma or period?

Or do I need to repeat 'a' twice, as shown below?

Parallel?

Thank you.

You once mentioned that you never read a style book, Aspara Gus. Were you born with a grammatical brain? This is somewhat enigmatic to me, to say the least. You and Charles Harper must have the same gifted grammatical genetics. How's that for an alliterative phrase? LOL.

Well, there’s only so much grammar to be learned from a style manual.
