There are different views about whether people nowadays have a more independent life or they are more depending on each other than in the past. In my view, we are becoming more independent in the way of living and working than our previous generations.
It is understandable for those who say present life is dependant by several reasons. Firstly, with the development of society, many parents now have a prosperous condition to support their children even when they totally grow up. For example, in Vietnam, these days, college students are still provided with fee and money for food, bills,….while some decades ago, because of poverty, people had to earn money by themselves at a very young age. Moreover, with the hectic life people are living, many of them spend more time a day working and earning money, becoming occupied that many problems related to children, houses , …such as child care, chores,..can hardly be resolved without parents or other people.
However, many people in present society have become proactive and independent in many areas. Since it is becoming more difficult these days to improve their own lives, there is no incentive to help or support each other. Another reason is starting from people that the complexity of society and many social problems act as a deterrent for our believes from seeking help from people around. For example, in the past, while our parents easily trusted neighbors to share with them housework such as babysitting, house protection,…nowadays, most of our neighbors are casual acquaintences that whose names can hardly be remembered.
In conclusion, although there are some reasons to prove that people in modern society are dependant on each other, I believe that we are living more independantly because of social characteristics.
