my personal statement

From a young age I have been fascinated by those people in black and white suits –gowns and wigs I did not know who they were or what they did until I asked my aunt who was on of those people. She explained to me what a lawyer and a barrister did, which is what sparkled my passion for this vocation. After years of my own research and lots of questions I’ m completely confident that this is the right path for me. I know that I will become a very good lawyer because I can speak many international languages which are German, Dutch Urdu , Hindi, Punjabi Pharri and not to forget English of course. Knowing all these languages is a big advantage because in today’s world there is a big demand for languages.



I know I will be very good for the society at your university as for I have been involved in many activities and organised events in order to raise money for charity. I have helped out on year 6/7 open days were I have given presentations and speeches about the school which has build up my confidence. I was a sixth form councillor and I was a ABC (anti bullying campaign) were I learned how to listen and to communicate with students and help the solve the problems were I took charge. In my school I was a EAL teacher assistant were I have helped out the teacher in her lesson and I have also taken charge of the class I have helped students in classes who don’t know any English I have translated to them in their language. Plus I have also translated for the schools I have translated to the parents who don’t know any English plus I have translated official letters and application form I have also showed parents round the school and tell them about the school. And for my other school activity I have recorded a school play (Oliver twist). I have also been a part of many charities and I have organised a lot of charities where I have also decorated and sole Christmas hamper’s for charities. I am hopping I can continue these activities and my passion and hobbies at the university.



In my case I can not say that I have looked at a number of career possibilities I can say I have tried all career possibilities which appealed to me at first but when I have experiences them than I found out that it is not my kind of subject.



From my studies and my work experiences I have learned a lot of new skills. When I did childcare I have learned how to communicate with people from various different backgrounds and my creativity development while working with children. While working in a nursery’s I have learned to cope with children in different environment. I had a lot of responsibilities while I was working in the nursery. I was in charge of taking calls doing cash flows and administration and to use computers which taught me a lot of new skills. After childcare I have studied business studies which I did not find challenging. I have also worked in an estate agency where I gained a huge amount of experience in dealing with customers. I had to use many skills to negotiate between buying and selling I also have gained experience on how to handle difficult customers. I am confident and have learned how to handle situations appropriately. I have also worked in a doctor surgery where I was in charge of all the office work such as taking calls dealing with customers photocopying and organising files and administration. I have contributed my ideas for the smart running of the surgery. I have also worked in a law firm where I had the chance to see what it is like to be a professional lawyer where I had the duty of a professional. I also have worked aboard where I had the chance to use my languages I have worked in in a hotel where I was able to communicate with the customers in different languages and use my admin skills. Plus I worked in a company in Holland where I also used my communication skills selling products and buying products taking delivery and using my admin skills plus I have been using my language skills while I was working abroad it has given me confidence. I am good working in a team or individually, both ways’ I am sure that my work will not lack in any way.



I have struggled a lot in my academic life I came in the at the end of year 9. Frequent movement caused difficulty at my pervious school I was not studying GCSE I was studying Asdan certificate maths and ESOL English and certificate science at a very low level this is because at that time I did not know any English. When I have started my new high school in January I have struggled because I had less than 4 months to study my GCSE exams plus I had to hand in all the coursework for all lesson which was a big challenge I competed successfully achieved good grades in my coursework. My predicted grades were good due to very less time for my revision for my GCSE exam I was not able to perform at the top of my ability.



This experience with my GCSE was a big challenge which I can say I have over come very quickly I have spend a lot of time studying without any stress I was committed to do all of the GCSE subjects which everyone else was doing in my year even though these syllabus were new to me and everyone else was studying them for 2 years.



Passion and desire are the internal instincts that have brought me this far in life which hasn’t stopped me from studying. Now that I am on the right direction to continue my studies as a mature student I am dedicated to achieving my ambition of studying law and becoming a very successful lawyer.
