Can two momentary actions happen simultaneously?

Which sentences are right?
1. He returned to the village when the war ended. (when=as soon as)
2. He didn't return to the village when the war ended.
3. The clock struck ten when he came back.
4. The clock didn't struck ten when he came back.
5. The clock was striking ten when he came back.
6. The clock hadn't struck ten when he came back.
7. The clock didn't struck ten before he came back.

Can two momentary actions happen simultaneously? In Sentence 1, "returned" happened immediately after the action"ended", right? What about the other sentences?

1. He returned to the village when the war ended. (when=as soon as)Returned soon, understood, but it might have taken a little time.
2. He didn't return to the village when the war ended. I would use "after" here, because the action didn't occur.
