Can this sentence be in past tense?

Hi there, can this sentence be in past tense with "ed" on it? Is the sentence also correct? thanks

I do not know if the guy driving the car was drunk or not, but he crashes/ed into a group of people on motorcycles and they go flying.

I do not know if the guy driving the car was drunk or not, but he crashes/ed into a group of people on motorcycles and they go flying.

It needs to be in past tense ('crashed', 'went flying') because you are talking about past events.
