Can the adverb 'ever' be used both in present perfect and past simple questions?

Hallo

Could anyone dispel my doubt about the correct usage of the word 'ever'? If someone would ask me, I would say that 'ever' should be used in present perfect tense only inasmuch as it does not refer to a specific time. Am I right? Are the both sentences below correct?

1) Have you ever driven a car?
2) Did you ever drive a car?
