Can "soon after" be used to begin sentences such as this?

1. Soon after, the two friends were reunited with Tanis and their other companions, who had recently arrived in the city, and agreed to take the mysterious Berem Everman to the dragonarmy headquarters of Neraka and rescue Laurana.

2. Soon after, Huma and Magius encountered the Solamnic Knight Buoron, who led them to a nearby outpost of the knights.
