Yes, you should use an apostrophe.

Julia is a name, so capitalize the first letter (J). "I" should be capitalized, too. And so should the first letter of a sentence ("Would I use an apostrophe...? And where would I place it?")

1. Julia is a character in a book.

2. Julia's a character in a book. (This is just another way to say the same thing as # 1. # 1 is a little more formal.)

We call it "lazy little finger syndrome"....hesitant to use the little finger to capitalize the letters while typing. Some people compensate by putting on the "CapsLock", which is bad in Internet, because that is referred to as "shouting". Try to overcome your "bad habit".....it isn't all that difficult to do.
