Can someone tell me what this means please

"People who only vote for a political party because that is whom their father voted for rather voting for whom will do the best job."

What does the sentence mean? it's very complicated. Is there any mistake in the sentence?

The idea in this sentence is that some people vote the candidate that is running for the party they favor rather than voting the candidate that can be the best option and will perform the job better. S presidency he is going to vote for McCain because he is running for the Republican party. He still may not be the best option but he believes in the republican political ideology as the best and is focused on party rather than in personality of the candidate and his records.

Hi MrCurious

What you posted is not a complete sentence. Basically, the entire thing appears to be the subject of a sentence and the predicate is completely missing. In addition, there seems to be a word missing between "they" and "will" (possibly "think"), and the second use of "rather" appears to be a typo.
