As your constituent, I am writing to express my support for H.R. 2427, the Gutknecht-Emerson Bill. I believe that the United States should allow
importation of prescription drugs. If this bill would be passed, prescription drugs would be less expensive, allowing access to these drugs by
many Americans. This bill would mostly help older Americans who can not afford expensive prescription drugs that constantly need to be refilled.
Some seniors (in order to save money) are going to Canada to purchase their prescriptions. The prescriptions made in Canada- as well as many
European countries- are made in FDA approved facilities. Many Americans are concerned that H.R. 2427 will lead to unsafe drugs imported from
elsewhere, but that is not true. According to the Congressional Research Service, “Through long established GMPs (Good Manufacturing
Practices), both countries (the United States and Canada) mandate strict quality controls, testing standards, and thorough inspections to ensure
the safety and efficacy of prescription drugs.” I want to thank you for your valuable time by allowing me the opportunity to write to you about
this issue and I appreciate your support on this important issue.
Sincerely,
