Prompt: an essay of 250 words explaining why you are interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy and why you are applying to st. john’s university
When I took Health Academy, I had to research three specific careers that I found interesting, but the career that caught my eye was pharmacy. Initially, I thought that pharmacists only dispensed medication and did not interact with patients. Through my research, I found that pharmacists not only dispensed medication, but they also explained effects of medication, were involved in management of pharmacies, and advised patients on how their medicines are to be taken or used in the safest and most effective way in treatment of patient illnesses. This led to my interest in pharmacy because I am interested in the Health Field and I want to run my own pharmacy that is based on providing quality health care to patients. While I want to improve quality of health care, I would like to travel and see the world because I was born on an island; my view of the world is limited to a tiny spot in the ocean. St. John’s offers an exceptional program that allows students to travel abroad during the school year. This not only offers me a chance to study abroad, but a chance to observe different health care in other countries, which could allow me to incorporate those ideas in my own vision of health care. My principles and value of quality health care correlates with St. John’s vision statement. My research about Pharmacy has expanded my views on quality health care and how I can do my best in aiding others in need.
