Analysis:
"Pie Day" is a documentary that was produced a year or so ago by Drew Landry. I found many things that I dislike about it and only a couple of things that kept me interested in it.
First, the documentary is very hard to understand because I am not a Catholic. I really do not know what the religious objects mean or why he decided to use them. I think many non-Catholics who decide to watch this documentary will have a hard time understanding it because they will not know the history of this culture or why Good Friday means so much to so many people.
I believe that in order to make this documentary better; Drew Landry first needed to explain the history of "Pie Day" and why it is so important. Landry also needed to inform the viewers of when and where "Pie Day" started, and why it is so rooted in the Roman Catholic faith?
Secondly, I dislike that the documentary is low in quality and has lots of errors. The audio is horrible. Sometimes, I could barely or not even hear what the subjects were saying. Like the audio, the footage also is not good. Some of the subjects, I found to be blurry and were really hard to see. I could tell that Landry rushed to finish this documentary because he forgot to white balance. I had a hard staying focused because I was so distracted because he did not white balance his images. I kept saying to myself, "How did he forget to white balance?"
Finding a needle in a haystack is probably easier to do than finding some positive to say about this documentary, but after hours of thinking I finally found something positive to say about this documentary, which is that some of the parts are very comical. I could not stop laughing when one of the old ladies said "Move out of my way boy, so I can get a spatula". Another hilarious moment is when once of the old ladies were asked, "When did this start?" She respond, " Baby, we just started" I found this funny because Landry was not talking about when they started baking pies that day, but what year did they been preparing pies.
I will give this documentary a two out of five stars, and that is being generous.
