Can someone edit this sentence?

Can someone help me please? Do I need to place what is important in italics or quotation? Is there a better way to say this?

Within the body of Christ, the idea of of purpose is often understood as being synonymous with what is important.

Thanks!

I think it's OK as it stands, except you have a double "of", and I do not know what "within the body of Christ" means. It sounds a bit anatomical, but I guess that is some sort of expression among your audience.
