Can somebody teach me a good method for increasing vocabulary circle in advanced level?

Hi,
I'm not a native speaker and I'm living in Asia. My own language is Persian. It's long ago that I started to learn English without going to any class. I just read some English texts such as online news from time to time. I set down any vocabulary which I don't know its meaning then I look for its meaning in Longman dictionary. For example, the word, cast, has verb and noun forms. I read all the meanings related including phrases, idioms,... for both noun and verb form. I read the presented examples in the dictionary to have a better understanding. Of course, some of them has adverb and adjective forms too so I read all. when I read all the meanings of a certain word, I put a check mark in front of that word I'd set down. This process is done for every word which I find unfamiliar in my text. This method is slow as well as, I cannot remember all the meanings of them in different situations. The oblivion gets worse as days go on. Please guide me and tell whether this method is wicked? Is it scientific?

Thanks for your response but I think it's not useful since setting down the meaning in my language is completely wrong. English words should be learned in English. Have you any other idea?

That's interesting. Most of the people I've known who have managed to learn English perfectly, as teenagers or adults and speak flawlessly, like English and other British people, have been middle easterners. A few Iranians were among them.

They did it mainly by pr

If your goal is learning the language, here English, you don't need to be worry about forgetting the meanings of the words, too much. And since in there, most of people don't speak in English, you had better to get yourself involved in online English places as much as possible. Reading good English grammar books and books that are written in formal English are good tools as well. I'm sure your Eng

Not straight away but, you can achieve that. The point is that you should try to speak, read and write it as much as possible. Not just during specific times that you have for studying. If you want to improve significantly, d

You're doing fine. Just have some patience. In the meanwhile, watch tons of English movies and devour English novels and stories. The language will find its home in you.
