Position Argument

Why abortion is wrong and immoral and should be illegal

Abortion is wrong and unjust and it should not only be legal but should be a criminal offence.

It is not just a simple operation as extracting a tooth or removing tonsils. An

unborn child is not part of the mothers body but an individual. The

person’s life starts not from the time he or she was born but from the time of conception. I will

show why abortion is outright murder and I will prove that abortion is against human values,

religious values and conscience, and I will disprove that abortion is a good idea.

Murder is considered a violent offence that would put any person in jail for quite a substantial

amount of time. That’s exactly what abortion is: taking an innocent life of a human being for

being irresponsible, too young, financially unstable or in some more rare cases, rape. Women are

sometimes subjected or forced by men to get one without their will. He may threaten to leave her

or threaten harm, among other threats. No matter who makes the decision it is utterly wrong to

take a human beings life. In South Dakota they passed a new law requiring doctors performing

abortions to explain that the procedure would end the life of a human being and can cause the

mother psychological harm or even make her commit suicide. This is a great step towards

making women understand the consequence of their actions. Doctors are supposed to save lives

not take them, which they have to do when they perform an abortion. The child has no choice

and if it did there is no doubt the answer would be, “to live.” Women who go through an

abortion will always carry the mental anguish with them. The thought they took their innocent

childs life and will wonder what kind of characteristics their child might have had with

appearance,character, and how he or she would have been in general is very stressful.

As soon as conception occurs and the dna of a new life is created and an individual starts to

form then it is murder right away! Women should take responsibility for their actions because if

she has sex knowing she could get pregnant then she should face the consequences of her actions

and have the child. She could have avoided becoming pregnant by using contraception in the

first place. Using abortion as a form of contraception is just immoral. Another reason parents

decide to electrocute their child by the chair of abortion is due to disability. If they notice their

child is developing deformities and disabilities they will usually decide to have an abortion. In

most cases, the parents will wait months after the first sight of disability to see if the fetus gets

better. When they see that it does not they will usually terminate the unborn child. In Canada

abortion is legal during all 9 months of conception so the mother and father can basically

decide when they want to go through with the abortion and can even wait until the very end to

see if the unborn child improves. Taking the life of an unborn baby that is disabled sends a

message to disabled people that their of less worth, which is just very wrong to disabled people

everywhere who go on to live full fulfilling lives. Ending a life of any human is immoral and

should be seen as intolerable. In society, we are not allowed to discriminate for

religion,race,gender and disability so why is it ok to make something bad like an abortion even

worse by stereotyping. Adoption is probably the best solution to abortion besides not doing it at

all. If you cant handle the responsibility if you are too young or financially unstable then you can

at least give your child a chance at life and give him or her to an adoption service. Anybody

would rather have this fate then death! At least then you can see your child grow up and

reconnect later on in life when you are able to take the responsibility. Times have changed and

laws are being changed all the time but abortion still seems too sensitive of a subject to change

the law on but it is time for people to take responsibility and to do the right thing.

Human values, religious views and conscience are some more factors that contribute to why

women should not go through with abortion. With regards to human values, these ladies are

killing their babies who are totally not responsible for this situation, and should be able to live

and grow old just like anybody else. The women who have abortions also develop mental

anguish because they no that they are immoral and that they have probably done the wrong

thing. Humans are by nature selfish creatures and will think about their own needs and values

instead of others. Since they can’t feel the babies pain or suffering or the waste of life it is a lot

easier to make the decision to abort the fetus. Religious values are very responsible for stopping

a lot of abortions thankfully. Many religions simply do not allow abortions and women will be

punished and scolded upon in many cultures if they do have one. It seems no matter which

religious group you look at, they are all against abortion in one form or another. For example, in

Sikhism it is generally forbidden because it is said to interfere with the creative work of God.

When a women has an abortion she will always think of the baby she might have had. She will

always think of the future that could have happened with her baby which will always remind her

that she killed it, because she had an abortion, she will never have a good life because her

conscience will remind her of what she has done. No matter how strong the women, this guilt on

your conscience will always rest on her.

Abortion should be allowed because the women can be too young and unable to take care of a

child, or may not be able to give it a good home. I greatly disagree with this statement because

taking an innocent life when you could easily of given him a chance at life with an adoption

service. Also it is likely that if you no how to perform sex then you will also no about birth

control methods, and if you just didn’t bother to use them or were to lazy then you should have

to be responsible and take care of your child. Womens rights constitutes for a big portion of the

argument of why abortion should remain legal. Women rights activists claim that since a

woman’s body is hers and hers alone. Only she has the right to decide what can and cannot be

done with it. If she decides to terminate the pregnancy then that is her right. Also abortion is part

of the fight for gender equality and to not allow abortion would be putting a restriction on their

bodies that would not be applied to men. I am for Womens rights however, saying that killing a

human being should be part of a womens right sounds absurd. If she didn’t want the baby that

bad,she could have used contraceptive methods and this would not be a problem in the first

place. If men were able to get pregnant I am one hundred percent sure women would be against

them having abortions because then the numbers would probably be far astronomically greater

then women if this were so. Usually men want the abortion more also, so if anything not

allowing abortions, in a sense gives women the right to keep their baby without having family

members or partner influencing her what to do. The best reason for abortion in my opinion is if a

women was raped and unwillingly had sex and became pregnant. That would be very

understandable to not want to bear a child and have the memory of the person who caused you

suffering and misery. No matter what though you will still have the mental anguish of the

abortion and wonder about your child. Two lives will be ruined: yours and your baby, if you get

an abortion. If you were to hand the child over to adoption services at least you made the best

possible moral decision of a horrible situation. Conception does not occur right after intercourse

and if the rape victim is to seek medical attention right away then they can prevent pregnancy

before it occurs. It is something people do not think about until the last minute, but one should be

more careful and think of their future so problems don’t persist. Even rape is questionably not a

good excuse for getting an abortion. Finally, a fetus is technically not a human being because it

cannot think or produce emotions, or have consciousness for that matter and is not truly a person.

In retaliation to that, all I have to say is that fetus will in the future grow to be a human being in

less then 9 months and to tamper with lifes great mystery of birth and not allow a miracle of life

to occur is very sad and unreasonable.

There are many reasons why women should not take innocent lives by abortion. In reality,

women need to think about the consequences that can occur before they decide to have sex.

Everyone is responsible for their own actions and abortion is a disgusting way of giving someone

who didn’t think about the consequences a way out of the problem. There will always be debates

on both sides of this issue. Always! In the rarest of cases abortion may be ok but it is still murder

and should not only be illegal but a serious criminal offence. Especially in a country where the

most serious violent offenders and murderers don’t get death. It seems as though an unborn baby

has less right to live then a convict.
