I would be greatful if anyone could help me check my grammer, eventually point what I shoul change.

This thesis will be concerned with quality of translation. My goal is to confront professional translation with amateur one in terms of quality and adequacy. I also intend survey reception of both interpretations by readers.

I specifically want elaborate this issue because nowadays non-official translations are easily available on the Internet which is rather new phenomenon. Considering that these types of translations are widely read and often evoke turbulent emotions in many readers, I am convinced that this issue is worth of investigation from scientific point of view.

I hold the view that amateur translations are inferior to professional one with regard to its quality and artistic value. This speculation steams from my assumption that professionals are usually educated in the field of translation studies and known various theories, techniques and methods of translation. In addiction I hypothesize that they have more experience and - what is more important - they can spend much more time on translating than non-professionals. Amateurs translation is often done only in his free time, for fun sometimes for owns need of self-satisfaction.

The first chapter will be dealing with basic issues of translation studies that are relevant to my thesis. There will be definitions of translation and quality assessment as well a brief note about amateurs translation phenomenon. Description of translation profession and specificity of rendering of literary text will also be mentioned there.

The second chapter will describe all kind of translation mistakes as well as their source and classification. I will differentiate between translation mistakes and errors in target text. This chapter will also emphasize need for educating interpreters in the field of Polish language.

In the last chapter I will examine two original book in English and their two translations – professional and amateur. Firstly I will survey Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowlling and its two interpretations. The first translation is done by Andrzej Polkowski and second by the group of amateurs called Armia Swistaka. Secondly I will investigate novel Breaking Dawn of Stephenie Mayer’s. It was translated into Polish by professional translator Joanna Urban. Second interpretation was done by group of girl calling themselves TwilightTeam.

In this chapter I will compare adequateness of both versions of translation to the original text and quality of both variants. In order to survey it I compared selected passages of original text and its translations. The analysis and conclusions will be supported also by opinions of readers familiar with source text and its interpretations.
