The excessive consumption of products made by plastic has resulted in several negative influences on humans, animals, and our environment. Firstly, it is indisputable that public health would be put in jeopardy when over-consuming of plastic items. This is because the additives contained in plastic materials such as BPA, plasticizer with which we come directly into contact may link to some diseases related to lung, thyroid issues, and neurologic disorders. For example, according to a study by the World Health Organization, men who are often in contact with phthalates and BPA, the toxic chemicals in plastic products have a higher risk of developing prostate cancer. Also, in terms of our environment, the overconsumption of plastic bags leads to the pollution of groundwater. This means after utilizing these plastic items, they will be buried in the dumpsite and generate methane gas, which passes through and seeps into the ground and the water we drink. As a result, persistent substances will gradually damage groundwater more than carbon dioxide. Last but not least, it disrupts the natural food chain of animals. When the tiniest organisms such as plankton become poisoned due to plastic ingestion, this causes problems for the larger terrestrial animals that depend on them as a food supply. In the long term, this will kill organisms down and distract the food chain. In conclusion, plastic products cause many problems in several ways when being abused.
