Brief Summary:
"Broadcast News" is a very entertaining story about two rivals news reporters who are fighting for the attention of a lovely young female producer. One is a handsome, talented, pretty boy who loves himself more than anyone else. While the other is a mediocre, shy correspondent that also has a crush on this producer. The movie is mainly about three people who toy with the idea of love, but are obsessed by the idea of making television. Although the movie, Broadcast News theme shows stress and avoidance, it also is very amusing and entertaining.
Analysis:
First, stress is clearly showed in this movie, mostly in the newsroom scenes. One scene in particular that show the stress that these people are under is when Joan Cusack goes running through the station to deliver a videotape before the start of the show. Another scene that shows this is when Jane is talking Tom through a special report on Libya, and Tom has to say exactly what she is saying, which can be very stressful.
Secondly, avoidance is showed in this film. Holly Hunter's performances greatly shows how many people use high-pressure jobs as a way of avoiding time alone and time to find love and simply enjoy life. Actually, some become obsessed with their job because it helps them hide from the world.
Lastly, I found this movie to be knowledgeable and very comical. The funniest part has to be the scene where Aaron finally gets a stab at anchoring and was sweating profusely. The movie is very knowledgeable because it shows what goes on behind the scenes at a TV station and provides a detail look at what these people go through on a daily basis when trying to produce the news.
I found this movie to be very good, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested inspiring journalists and those who just need a good laugh.
