Can 'shorten' be used in this context?

I am trying to say 'Can you help me to shorten this process?'
But shorten looks to me more adequate for "shortening trousers" and similar (more for material context).
Can shorten be used here, or you have some other word that fits better?
Thanks

I think that "shorten this process" is acceptable. However, "speed up this process" would be more common and in most cases conveys much the same meaning.

It's OK.

Usually we would ask for help to make the process more efficient.
