Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in very subject.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

As the drastic rise of feminism, nowadays both men and women are offered the equal opportunities of education and occupation. Thus, it is suggested that universities should accept the same number of male and female students in every single subject. However, in my point of view, I totally disagree with this thought for these following reasons.

Initially, having the same number of both genders on all degree courses is simply unrealistic. Physically, some areas of work and related study fields are not suitable for women and that is why they would naturally show less interest. For example, some jobs such as engineer, pilot or builder requires many heavy physical activities that the women body cannot endure. Moreover, sensationally, female students are more fitted to some areas of education than male, let us take nursing and baby siting as good examples. As the result, women in such subjects should get priority and it is really difficult for the universities to find the equivalent number of students in both genders to apply for these subjects.

Secondly, I strongly believe that admitting students in universities should be based on the result of studying, the talent and interest in individual subjects but not the gender. In this way, both male and female candidates can have the same opportunities to compete and achieve the qualified education. In addition, it would be so unfair to base admission to university courses on gender because that would deprive many talented and worthy students. Hence, this idea will disadvantage the university because of losing the elite students.

In conclusion, I disagree with the point that admission should be strictly depended on the same number of men and women, rather than their performance and interest. Again, the selections of university students should be based on merit, and it would be both impractical and unfair to change to a selection procedure based on gender.
