Can OTHER go with singulars?

Next week we are playing with other school.

Is the above correct? Can we use this adjective with singular complements? If not, what is the correct alternative?

But then the object has to be previously specified, right? If this school is unknown to both the speaker and the listener, we cannot use 'the other'. Am I right?

Yes, say another as Avangi mentioned. Unfortunately you can't say an other as two words.

You can also say some other meaning "another".

There's a subtle difference between "another" and "some other."

With "another," I do know which "other thing" I mean, but for whatever reason, it's not important enough to include in the conversation.

Last night we played a school with a good team, and next week we play another school who has an even better team. -- I know the team we're playing next week, but it'
