Can only disasters "befall" on somebody?

Can I say "let salvation befall on me"?

I know that it might sound funny,

because all the dictionaries I've checked with indicate that only bad things "befall" on someone,

not anything pleasant will.

You wouldn't use the word "on". "Let salvation befall me," is the correct thing to say.

No, do not say "let salvation befall on me". And don't say "let salvation befall me" either. That is an even bigger mistake. Say, "Let salvation descend upon me".

The closest I can get to is "let salvation fall on me," but even that sounds archaic. No one I know would talk like that.

But as the previous poster said, you could say "let salvation befall me," but "befall" has the implication of "fell" or "bad," so it's

stephenmatlock you could say "let salvation befall me," but "befall" has the implication of "fell" or "bad," so it's better to use a different word.
The different word right here's supposed to be "fall on" me?

BUt you said even that sounds archaic,

so what's the better word here?

Thanks for answering in advance!

Because your topic and word use is somewhat archaic, "let salvation fall on me" will work. It's not wrong; it's just a style of speaking that's old-fashioned. More modern AmE would be "Let me be saved."

But has anybody found out that my topic is actually grammatically wrong?LOL

Hi,

Can I say "let salvation befall on me"?

'Befall' is a transitive verb, and does not use 'on'. eg 'Disaster befell me'.

Other than that, there is nothing grammatically wrong with your example.

Don't confuse grammar with mea
