Can lust be equivalent to admiration?

Question;

I have been lusting for this band/singer for ages, when their second album came out, I went to store and bought it immediately.

As I understand, lust means something like "sexual desire", but what I mean by "lust" in this case is admiration.

Does my sentences sound funny to native's ears or is that acceptable?

Thanks in advance

Hi

Would it be o.k. when I say ; I have been ******* for this ring/shirt for ages?

Or the natives does not use "****" figuratively?

Hi,

It's OK, said as a kind of little joke.
