Can I use "say" to give example in formal writing

I have this sentence:

The ISI noise is much stronger than both shot noise and thermal noise, say 10^3 and 10^4 times, respectively.

Can I write that sentence in a paper.

Hi, I wouldn't use say in formal writing. I would use for example or for instance instead. Say is considered a little bit informal when providing an example.
