Can I use 'could have ~ed' for 'guess'?

Stonehenge could have been built by aliens. [Discovery Channel]

I think the above sentence is not conditional three because no one knows who made Stonehenge.
So, I'd like to know whether I can use "could have ~ed" so as to express guess like as "might have ~ed."

Thank you in advance for your help.

park sang joon I think the above sentence is not conditional three because no one knows who made Stonehenge. It is not conditional because no condition ('if'-clause) has been predicated. " Yes, indeed—and quite common it is.
